So the other day I'm hanging out in Bremerton minding my own business. That may not be absolutely correct depending on whose version of the story you're hearing. I had the opportunity to become a “hannie-ambassador of the city of Bremerton” and was appointed by none other than Patty Lent herself. Most of you will remember Lent as the current mayor of Bremerton, or the former Kitsap County commissioner, or hey, there she is on this page.
This is the first year I got to see Patty Lent at work. The 2009 Bremerton mayor election. Photo by Jacob Metcalf.)
So fast forward to the other day…..
It's me and Patty Lent!
NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY: Patty asks me to send her a copy of the picture. I'm so in “la la land” over my new honorary title bestowed upon me I *space* the actual Bremerton concern I wanted to discuss with Patty.I have her email. It's on and I am writing her about my friend's dilemma.
Keep in mind that I have lived in various areas of Bremerton on and off in my lifetime. I have friends in Bremerton that I visit. The list of “how Bremerton-y are you and no you cannot use RIOTS in your list” for me is lengthy. In the past when I've had a concern, I've never thought about addressing it directly to the mayor (this is actually not entirely true. I used to bug Louie Mentor.) or even to the city council person representing the area in question. The point is, when I was younger and when I was living in Bremerton, I had no faith of any of the aforementioned listening or even caring. Now that I'm older and I have some knowledge as to how city and county government works, I admit I'm not always sold on the idea that someone is listening.
I wrote and I described what sorts of things were happening in the location. I made mention of my friend and his family and how he was concerned for their safety. I asked who I would need to talk to about this issue. Today I received two emails from Bremerton Police Department and they are going to look into this whole situation. Wow!
UPDATE: My friend tells me that there's lots less riff-raff going on but he has yet to see an officer in his neighborhood. A couple nights ago we were talking and I got to hear about the prostitution in the park, but he's hopeful that this too will improve soon.
We are so not done yet. Here is Todd Best who is running against Patty Lent for mayor of Bremerton. You can read and learn more about Todd at Todd Best for Mayor
Who am I voting for? Okay well, although I am an “ambassador of the city of Bremerton” I don't live there. I live in Port Orchard. So there's that.
