Why I Do

August 18th, 2010

what I do. I blog about the world around me and my life and my world. Why?

I thought about this after reading this entry from Aunt Becky at Mommy Wants Vodka. Believe it or not, I not only write my own blog but I read others. I should update my blogroll to show you some of the cool bloggers I’ve encountered but you know, it’s not at the top of my priority list.

I started writing this blog to tell readers about current issues and things that interested me or that I thought held major importance. I was super angry most of the time. Through the years I learned that anger got me nowhere. Some of my caustic prose did get me some interesting conversations with people I thought I’d never meet. Sure, I still get angry. I still get highly upset. But I’m not going to use profanity to get my point across because I don’t think it really helps my message or makes me sound credible in any sense. that twitter thing

August 17th, 2010

As I sit here eating my fine election night dinner i’m a candidate and i grill my own stuff! and waiting for the returns, we should talk about how cool Twitter truly is.

“What’s Twitter?” you ask. It’s this social networking service where you can exchange ideas, thoughts, all sorts of things in 140 characters or less. For me, I use it to advertise this blog here. I’d like you to read. I understand if you can’t sometimes but really, I’d like you to read and even leave a comment for me if you so choose. Heck, you can even drop me an email if you desire. I love hearing from local Kitsap people and even Washington state people on what’s on their mind. It even inspires me to write some things.

I have this friend named Mona and she’s starting out a blog. Her first entry is excellent as it discusses how Twitter is becoming a big part of social media. I have to admit, social media for me has been a complete “trial and error” experience for the last few years. I’d like you to not only get active and involved in the world around us, but I’d like you to know from my own personal stories as to why it’s important. Some things work for me and some don’t. Twitter works for me because if I have something to say quick and on the spot, I can do just that.

Please take a moment to read my friend Mona’s post right here and welcome her to the blogging world.

goats with a message

August 17th, 2010

Sometimes I think I’m just not creative. Then I run into people like those from Fuse Washington who really put that important message out there. Please enjoy the goats on their behalf and hey, it’s primary day here in Washington state. Have YOU voted yet?

How time flies!

August 16th, 2010

I swear it was just yesterday we were discussing our perennial favorites for the August primary ballot. We were. Guess what?

Tomorrow is the actual primary. I KNOW! Okay, for all of you who are not in the know, this means that the ballots are officially done and numbers come out as to who won in the August primary. Okay, they’re considered done, but a race can always change due to tons of different reasons. If that vote count comes down to under a certain magic number for a race, guess what? All the ballots have to be recounted. Voting is absolutely serious stuff. So again, Kitsap County, I ask you to not use your ballot as a Crayola artistic effort. I’m just asking you to vote.

Oh yes, I was saying that the primary is tomorrow and everyone is having a party for this event. Okay, well MY friends are. I have so many invitations I don’t know to whom’s house I’m going to visit. I’ll have to figure that out sometime today. If anyone would like to drop an invite to me, you can do so below. Most important question of the day isn’t that though.
Have you VOTED yet?

it’s weird

August 16th, 2010

No, seriously, it’s weird to sign divorce papers. Knowing I’m cutting off a piece of my life legally that’s caused my kids and me so much hell. I get to take my maiden name back. More importantly, I get to take me back. I never quite understood that, I admit, until I was signing my name to legal documents the other day. I don’t have to have someone slinging insults at me daily or making me feel less than important anymore. I don’t have to have someone to dinner that my parents swore was the anti christ dining with them.

In signing those papers, truly I have a new found greater appreciation for those who can make love last a lifetime, through any storm dealt them. I’m not trying to steal Delilah or Debbie’s shine here, because they’re well versed in matters of love where I am not. like I just said “divorce papers”, so you get the picture I’ll tell you this though.

Long ago, when I took my vows with Mr Divorce, I really thought it was going to last a lifetime. That we could together weather any storm. It sucked that he had to bail at storm one and then place all blame to me for said storm. I felt like I wanted a refund. Oh well.

So goes another chapter in my life kids. We came, we saw, we survived and we couldn’t have done it without the support and love of family and friends. Amen.

August 12th, 2010

Today I was looking at ballot return numbers for the county of Kitsap and they’re still pretty low. However, a request came from a reader for ballot drop off locations here in Kitsap County. In case you’re wondering, here’s that list. Now, how many of us voted today?

Happy Birthday Jennifer!

August 11th, 2010

I’ve always loved it when my son does that “Mom, we need to talk” in a stern tone thing he does. It usually means he has something really important to tell me and maybe I should pay attention. One day, he does this and starts to tell me about this great girl he’s met. I try to tolerate Drew’s “others” but this girl sounded like maybe she wasn’t just an “other” the more he talked. In fact, she would later go on to become “the one” and I couldn’t be happier.

I absolutely adore my daughter in law. Not only has she given moi the esteemed title of “Grannie Hannie” twice now, she doesn’t put up with Drew’s crap. See, Drew is really stubborn and she just gets as stubborn as him and it’s great how they just “click”. They have an awesome relationship.

Mommies do get that separation anxiety mixed with the “may my child do better and fly higher than me” thing sometimes. As a mommy, I want the best for both of my children. I don’t have that fear with Jennifer and probably never will. She’s just that good for Drew in my eyes.

Why am I singing the praises of my daughter in law? Today is her birthday and I needed to take a special moment to thank her for being the best daughter in law I could have. I needed to thank her for finding Drew and being part of our family and that we all love her. I should probably wish her happy birthday too, but nah. She’s busy juggling two kids plus a third older one named Drew.

Eggs and Issues

August 9th, 2010

So last Tuesday morning I was up before the crack of dawn for Eggs and Issues at the Cloverleaf in East Bremerton. “What’s that?” you ask. It’s this forum hosted by the Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce to give you an opportunity to hear from political candidates on their views. This last week was extra fun because it was the 26th Legislative District up on the agenda. We had Sumner Schoenike and Jan Angel. These are your candidates for state representative position one in the 26th legislative district. Read the rest of this entry »

welcome back moi!

August 6th, 2010

I know, you’ve been wondering where I am. I took a sort of internet vacation for a couple days. It was super fun except for the part where I come home to find that I need to update my blog software. I’m not posting until this happens.

So after I go ahead and sing tons of Beatles Rock band and have tons of fun with it. I didn’t realize I knew so many Beatles songs after all. See, the thing is I sing as a great stress reliever. One time, this Sherry Appleton person told me that I had a great voice but I needed better microphone skills. No fear, I’m dying to go hang out with Toastmasters. I want to be an effective person when I stand up to speak, microphone or not. However, Sherry issued the challenge and I’m making that happen. She also happens to be one of the best legislators for our state I’ve ever met. I’d put her in the same high esteem as Carolyn Powers who was once a state legislator. Now Carolyn serves on the Port Orchard City Council. I’d just like to offer up my endorsement for Sherry Appleton though. Please vote for her if you can. Thanks lots.

I have an actual story I’m going to tell you about. Recently I attended Eggs and Issues which is hosted by Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce at the Cloverleaf Sports Bar and Grill. One of the employees who was there told another customer and me that the pizzas there have been the same for quite some time as she made them personally. I’m excited to sometime show up other than before the crack of dawn and see how delicious that pizza truly is. So yea, time to write instead of blowing away time playing video games. It’s coming soon.
