My Mom

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

is always proudest of me when I make those super bold moves. One year, I’m staring at my ballot and it says “Kitsap County Coroner”. I don’t know the guy’s name right off hand, but I notice he’s listed as a republican. I decide that I need to just write myself in there. This is where Mom has the fit. “You cannot be writing yourself in for a position you know nothing about and what happens if you win something like that?” I hire a crack team of Kitsap scientists is what we do. Then I realize I’m in Kitsap county and that team might be a bit hard to find or hire for that matter. Imagine the job description and write up for that honor. No don’t. Mom, I’ll whole heartedly admit that as a parent, you’re correct here.

So imagine my great surprise years later when I’m at Manchester Inn. I’m listening to a presentation panel of people discuss the case behind Gregg Olsen’s book “A Twisted Faith”. It’s standing room only and I’m practically in the lap of one of the presenters. That person would be Greg Sandstrom, Kitsap County Coroner. Mom just got her karmic payback for me ever doing the last paragraph. (more…)

Monday Metrics Day

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Why not? Let’s take a look at how people are finding me. Maybe if I’m really inspired, we’ll discuss what people are reading.

1. hannie blog kitsap: I’m hannie, I blog, I’m in kitsap. It’s nice to be known for that for some reason.

2. nah nah nah nah I’m gonna start a fight: Apparently we have some Pink fans on the intarwebs. Nice.

3. Gregg Olsen: I talk about him. He’s some New York Times bestselling author who writes outstanding, either fiction or non-fiction. Visit him here. Oh added bonus here, he too lives in Kitsap County.

4. Someone found out the hard way that you can only post to my blog entries for so long. Yes, I apologize, I do put a time limit on some of that stuff. If you are a blog writer/owner, I advise you do the same. Also, if trackbacks dump into your comments, they’re nice, but tacky. Remove them. Just my opinion, of course.

5. farming kitsap: Yes, thank you for being interested in farming in Kitsap County. Learn more about this venture here. Great farmers who want to help you eat healthier and fresher right here in Kitsap County. Visit and learn about their CSA program.

Those tags in this post? Absolutely redundant, but who cares? I’d like you to visit for a while, more than you already have been. I’m off now to find something really worthwhile to write about.

One Twist of Faith

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Everyone caught Gregg Olsen on Dateline NBC the other night talking about his new book “A Twisted Faith”? The book speaks of strangeness involving faith and murder right here in Kitsap County. I watched the show Friday night at the Manchester Inn with Gregg Olsen, a panel of people that were all related to the case and standing room only of people wanting to know more and ask questions.

Growing up in South Colby (home to another church disaster involving faith and horrific abuse) it gives me pause to wonder just what is happening in Kitsap County. Why were these people powerless for so long to something that should never EVER take place in any faith? (more…)

a darker side of something.

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Growing up in South Kitsap, I’ve seen some scary stuff. The Colchester curve still creeps me out to this day, because so many accidents happen there. Some parts of Olalla creep me out something fierce. The drive to Manchester State Park creeps me out because of a story told me during my childhood as well. I don’t know and have never confirmed if that story was true or not. Still creepy. I had a high school teacher who was neighbors with a very young Ted Bundy. Yes, that creeped me out too, the stories he would tell about that experience. My point is, not everything in Port Orchard is happiness and love and Cedar Cove. No, there’s more than that and I’m going to speak to that. His name is Gregg Olsen, he too is an author and he calls Port Orchard home as well. (more…)
