your weekend update

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Thanks to all of you looking for the commissioners forum. I’m sorry I lost my audio footage and had to go by what I could remember of it. Note to self: work on hannie techno moment.

Oh yea, do you know that tomorrow is the last day to register to vote to be counted in this August’s primary in the state of Washington? Be sure to check out this link here to make sure you’re counted.

Upcoming events? I’m spending this week with yet more doctors, so I don’t know exactly how much I can report about. I’m trying to just altogether steer clear of the whole BP story, because I think it’s horrible that the southern US gets dealt another horrid blow. However, I watched a documentary about how, long ago St Bernard and Plaquemines parishes were flooded deliberately to save New Orleans during a flood. I’ve been through those parishes before. I shudder in fear for them now, just as I do every state touching the gulf of Mexico. It gives me pause to think just how truly dependent we are on oil and what that very dependence can give us.

I’m now going to go back to finishing Gregg Olsen’s Victim Six and watch a documentary on Japanese American internment camps. Fascinating stuff I like, I know. Happy Sunday to everyone and remember, still not too late to get registered to vote and be counted.

Before I do some real posting, I thought I’d take a moment to personally address the “people who could be spammers”. Let’s get that going on.

contestant one: from Depression Girl… i believe that Barack Obama is the president that the US needs in these hard times. I do not like the local and foreign policy of any Rebublican.

You know, I could almost agree with this. I believe that our current president is one we need in hard times like these. I’m not sure I like how the grading system works for him currently, because he hasn’t been in office a full year and has a Nobel prize to his name. I don’t know that I would have gone that far to applaud his efforts so far. I’m not being offensive, I’m just saying that I think he needs to spend more time in office and accomplish far more before bestowing the honors. Does this make me any LESS of a democrat by stating this? No.

Let’s touch the “local and foreign policy of any….republican”. It is republican, by the way, but I make spelling errors all the time. I won’t hold it against you Depression Girl. I can’t agree with your statement. I’ve met some truly interesting Republicans both locally and nationally and some of what they have to say, I could agree with. I just tend to sway MORE democrat. Thanks for stopping by and voicing your opinion though, and let’s move along.

contestant two: words from a Stanley Mackem. Have you ever considered adding additional videos to your page to keep the visitors more entertained? I just read through the whole post and it was quite good but since I learn visually, I find videos to be more helpful. I like what you guys are always coming up with. Keep up the good work. I will check out your blog on the regular for some of the latest post.

Videos are something I’m just not into. Correction, I’d like to host more videos of things, but you know, it slows down my site. If I honestly wanted to keep visitors entertained, I’d tell them to watch my Twitter account in the sidebar or just visit my Twitter account. You learn visually, you say? Hmm. Time to break out more pictures. I’m quite adept at taking pictures of things and people and events. Duly noted. As for “you guys” well, thanks but it’s just me writing. I’ve offered in the past to let people “guest blog” and I’ve had one person take pictures of events on my behalf and used their photography with their permission. If I quote from someone else, I pretty much make sure that they are given proper credit. Again thanks for stopping by.

final thought: Yes, I should write more often. I’ve had three ideas come and go and I’m trying to figure out which would be the best one to talk about in terms of relevancy and interesting thought. Oh believe me, it’s 2010 and there’s lots to be said and talked about. It’s coming, but just a bit slower because of medical issues but you don’t really want to hear about that. I have another year of hanging out with surgeons and praying for a miracle to happen in my case, but honestly, that’s not important. What’s important to me, and should be to you as well, is making sure that you’re registered to vote, that you’re keeping up to date on candidates during this election cycle and if they’re really doing the job that either you elected them to do or wished that they would do, and actually vote this year. We’re all strapped for money these days and are the cuts we’re having to make, the things that we’re sacrificing, is it all going to balance out in the end and make us a better community, county, state, country? Your vote is your voice.

My Spam Moment

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

I’d love to talk to you about something cooler but I’ve been in the hospital fighting off a horrid case of pneumonia. So you don’t think I’m dead although I’ll tell you I feel like it at times, I thought we’d discuss my latest funniest spam I have received and I tell you what I think. Admit it, this is fun once in a while. Here’s our contender..

hi, im sorry i dont have time to read all of your writing but i was just wondering after seing your picture, do you use proactive?

Our writer from Canada doesn’t have time to read what I say, but wants to know if I use proactive? As in the pimple care medication? No, can’t say I do and I’m not too into putting any sort of chemical crap on my face. My daughter said she used ProActiv and it never seemed to work for her pimple problem. Even at 40, yes, I’ll occassionally get a pimple here and there. I’m at the school that subscribes to Neutrogena for everything..

or have you ever grown your hair out? or worne any makeup or straightened or curled your hair??

I grew my hair out and then I chopped it for a while. However, I like the current look and won’t be into changing it for a bit. For me, long Then too, I am the same girl who told Mom I would “tone my hair down”. If you have seen me, wonder how long mom believed me. Admittedly though, one of my “best” styles is the straighted style. My hair is only “curly” in say, high humidity situations or if I’ve just sweated or slept for a while. Most makeup I’m allergic to. I know, it’s just not fair to be able to slap all that color across my face like an artist to a canvas. But it’s entirely true.

im sorry if you find this rude, its just that i really wanna know and i think you would look 40 to 80 % better. :P send me and email at soli (obviously not the full email)

It’s nice that Canadians can tell me how to look better. I’m sure many more could as well. But honestly, who cares about me and my “cute and adorable look”? We, as Americans have so much more we need to hear from you about. It all starts with you registering to vote if you reside in the state of Washington. Don’t just register. Learn about those who are going to be on the ballot and what they’re going to be about and get your voice heard and counted. (For those of who have laid claim I have not done a darn thing, I spent three days at the Kitsap County Auditor’s office as an elections observer. I highly recommend it, it’s one heck of an education and I think the first thing it taught me is that your ballot goes through many steps to not only ensure its anonymity but its verification as legal and valid as well. So get registering to vote, I’ll get well soon, and no more Canadian Spammers wanting to tell me how to be cuter. I already know. I’ve had a few weeks off and I’m not really out to win your popularity contest either, but thanks for taking the time to write.

so on Monday, where should you be?

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Well, if you’re not a registered voter, and you live within the confines of Kitsap County, you should be at 617 Division Street, and you should be on the first floor, direct left, all the way back filling out forms to be a registered voter. Monday, October 20th is your LAST DAY to do this. Last day. So me, hannie, is begging YOU, fellow Kitsap person, to get your butt down there and get registered. Lunch break, break break, make an excuse that you have a family emergency, something, anything, get to the courthouse. And, if you need to have me make this even simpler for you, don’t go to “old and busted” courthouse. Go to “new hotness” courthouse and stay on the first floor and if you’ve gone to the commissioner chambers, you went the wrong way. Go the other way, all the way back. There. No fault directions. While you’re there, I highly recommend stopping by the espresso stand right past the commissioner chambers though, they make great sugar free mocha. Yum! Lucky “new hotness” courthouse employees get great sugar free mochas like that? You bet.

I’m thinking I could maybe get a shirt that says “I only come here for the sugar free mochas” and be good, but I’d be lying. No way. Please, I’m begging you. Tomorrow is your last day to get out there and register to vote. Get it done and put our county on the map for most NEWLY registered voters. Come now, I bet we could even beat out what, King county, Snohomish county, even Pierce county, because we’re the coolest county in the entire state. Let’s prove it right here right now. Go and register to vote tomorrow. The Auditor’s office is open from 8 am to 8 pm tomorrow. So you’ve got plenty of time to get in there, fill out the paper (it’s so simple, even HANNIE can do it!!!!!) and get registered, and make your voice count come November. And when you get in there, yes, you’re absolutely right in saying “hannie sent me!” because they all know who I am. I’m incredibly cool like that. But who cares about who you know and who you don’t know. Register to vote tomorrow. Please. Pretty please. And next entry, I swear, we’ll go through the voter’s guide. And geez, yes, we’ll get that interview done with Randy Neatherlin. He’s probably thought I fell off the side of the planet or something. I swear I’m alive Randy, but you know as well as I do, it’s election time. I’m fairly sure that Randy too would agree that yes, he’d like to see you register to vote while you can too. Mason County, I’m still working on hours, location, all that great stuff for you. Hang tight on that. But Kitsap County residents, I’m counting on you to get registered to vote. Make it so, everyone!
